CAPCOM heeft in een interview aangegeven dat Resident Evil 6 clean gemaakt is; de inspiratie voor de game komt niet uit vorige versies. Nadat de eerste beelden op het internet verschenen, werden er al snel links gelegd met voorgaande delen waaronder Resident Evil 4.
"We have a ton of respect for the past RE games. The ways in which they were each able to provide unique experiences is incredibly important. With RE6 we hope to create an even greater game than the previous entries in the series. That being said, we are not focusing on any previous title in particular. What we can say though, is that we do consider the things we have learned from previous RE games to be really beneficial as we make this new title."
De reden dat Leon en Chris weer hoofdrolspelers zijn, heeft te maken met de loop van het verhaal. Er zullen nog meer personages hun opwachting maken, aldus CAPCOM. "We hope everyone will look forward to finding out about them and how they fit into the story."
Resident Evil 6 komt uit eind dit jaar uit voor Xbox 360 en PlayStation 3.
